Publication Date: 22-Dec-2022 Expression of Interest Deadline: 05-Jan-2023 Assignment Description :- Road traffic injuries are an important public health problem in Ghana. According to the Ghana National Road Safety Authority, there were 2,924 fatalities from road traffic crashes in 2021 . The World Health Organization (2016) estimated the annual number of fatalities from road accidents in Ghana to be 7,018 and the fatality rate 24.9 per 100,000 population. According to the Global Disease Burden, road injuries is one of the ten most important causes of death and disability in Ghana . The ratio of deaths to injuries in road traffic crashes is 1:30, a substantial number of which lead to lifelong disabilities. Road traffic injuries (RTI) predominantly affect those in the productive age group creating a huge burden on the economy of the country. 70% of the road crash fatalities and injuries in Ghana are in the economically productive age group of 15-64 years. According to the World Bank, the cost of road traffic crash fatalities and injuries is estimated at 8.2% of the country's GDP. Post-crash response is the most neglected pillar of road safety. Emergency care is at the core of the post-crash response. The World Bank has been supporting the Government of Ghana in its efforts to improve Road Safety. As part of these efforts, it has planned to undertake an assessment of existing hospital based and pre-hospital emergency care services to identify priority interventions for a post-crash response system in the country.
